Progressive Discipline Plan

Teachers have well defined expectations, rules, and procedures that serve to optimize the learning environment in their individual classrooms.  Should a conflict or misconduct occur in the classroom or on school grounds, staff will adhere to the following system of increasing consequences.

Minor/Moderate Conflicts and Misconducts

When behavior issues arise that jeopardize student safety and detract from the learning environment, teachers need to document these incidents.  

Incidents recorded need to include a description of the infraction and a description of what the teacher did to solve the problem.  

1. Verbal Warning - Redirection to appropriate behaviors and creating solutions are the desired outcome of the verbal warning.  This would be done after class or with a quick side conversation with the student.  The parent will be emailed and the incident will be entered into JMC Discipline Reporting Data by the teacher.
2. Parent/Guardian Phone Call - If the behavior is not corrected, the teacher will once again give a verbal warning and inform students that a direct call to the parent/guardian will be made to help solve the problem.  Parent/guardian will be called and incidents will be entered into JMC Discipline Reporting Data by the teacher.
3. Teacher Detention and Intervention - If the next offense will warrant a detention issued by the teacher.  This detention will require both student and teacher to discuss desired behaviors and solutions as well as filling out the Student/Teacher Detention Intervention Form. The parent/guardian will be emailed or called and the incident will be entered into JMC Discipline Reporting Data by the teacher. 
4. Administration Intervention - The final offense will warrant a parent(guardian)/student/teacher/counselor/administration meeting.  The outcome of this meeting will be a specific behavior plan outlining acceptable behaviors necessary for the student to remain enrolled in the class.  Incident will be entered into JMC Discipline Reporting Data by the administration. 

Severe Conflicts and Misconducts

Professional judgment by the administration will determine the severity of the incident and the need for more severe and immediate action, including a required parent conference and/or suspension.

Parent/Guardians will be notified that their student is not behaving in an appropriate manner and may be called to pick them up and remove them from school for the remainder of the day.
